Archipelago is a loose collection of interrelated, quasi-functional furniture objects using discarded seating and donated clothing from Chances Dances community members. Transforming somewhat banal contemporary commercial/institutional furniture with these layers of clothing and fabrics is inspired by the way Chances Dances has been able to transform spaces and communities with its magical weirdness. The configurations are in service to other pieces of the exhibit, but also attempt to create an array of non-traditional seating and socializing arrangements.
Archipelago was custom designed for the 10 year anniversary show of Chances Dances, entitled Making Chances, installed at Gallery 400 in the Fall of 2015.
